Do you believe that you “don’t matter?” Do you minimize or deny your feelings? Do you constantly put others’ needs ahead of your own? Do you require other people’s approval to validate your self-worth? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then you may be codependent.
Codependency is defined as behaving in an overly passive or caretaking way, neglecting your own needs while being obsessively preoccupied with the needs of others. Codependents become involved with people who are unreliable, emotionally unavailable or needy—often finding themselves in physically and emotionally abusive relationships. Unresolved issues of codependency can lead to more serious disorders like alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders and sex addiction, among others.
At Confidential Counseling Services, Inc., we go beyond the symptoms of codependency to treat the underlying cause—unresolved psychological trauma. To read more about codependency click here. To find out more about our codependency program, contact us at 713-542-4649.
